Tucked away in the countryside, hidden at the foot of the beautiful North Downs is the tiny hamlet of Peene near Folkestone. Old Barn Cottage has a pretty garden and is situated in the heart of the hamlet and offers luxury B&B accommodation. It is an ideal base for a quiet retreat in the countryside or a stop over for the Channel Tunnel which is only 5 minutes away with the main line station to London 10 minutes away.
Walkers, cyclists, artists, horse riders and photographers alike all enjoy the scenery, wildlife and birds that this area offers. Also within easy reach is the quaint old harbour of Folkestone, overlooking the channel to France (23 miles away). It is a maze of old pubs, restaurants and individual shops. The old high street within the creative quarter is a must for all tourists with art, music and restaurants alive with visitors throughout the year.
The towns of Dover and Deal with their historic castles are within easy reach as is the beautiful city of Canterbury with its stunning cathedral. A day trip to France either by Euro Tunnel or ferry is a brilliant day out – so don’t forget your passports.
History of Old Barn Cottage

Situated along a winding lane, Old Barn Cottage, originally a cattle barn, was
initially converted into farm workers cottages, circa 1829. It was kept as
such up until the 1970's when the original windows were replaced but not much
else. It is constructed of stone with leaded windows and old Kent peg tiles
to the roof. The little brook which runs alongside to the front of the cottage adds charm and age to the hamlet and is often where the ducks with their ducklings play in the summer months.
Sympathetically refurbished in 2008 this light and airy cottage still contains the original oak beams and open fireplace (now housing a cosy log burner). The winding stairway takes you up to the
first floor. Beautifully furnished and decorated, this charming cottage is ideal for couples. You may hear the horses or ducks from the nearby pond but not much else. Oh, and of course the odd tractor going by.
